Greenprint Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 25, 2026
Greenprint is a plant-care app for Android, operated by Desert Garden Plants LLC ("Desert Garden Plants," "we," "us"). This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and how you delete it. Questions: DesertGardenPlants@gmail.com.
The short version
- You can use most of Greenprint without an account. Your plants live on your device.
- Signing in with Google adds cloud backup and the community feed.
- Your home address and coordinates never leave your device except to fetch a satellite image of your roof.
- Plant photos you submit for identification or health checks are sent to AI providers to generate a result.
- You can delete your account and its data at any time, from inside the app or by emailing us.
1. Information we collect
Information you give us
Account information. If you sign in with Google, we receive your email address, display name, and profile picture from your Google account, and we create an account identifier for you. We use your email's first part to suggest a starting username. We never see or store your Google password.
Your plant collection. Nicknames, species, watering and fertilizing schedules, notes, health diagnoses, repotting history, and propagation records.
Photos. Photos you take or select of your plants and rooms, and any profile picture you upload.
Home and room information. If you use the room planner, we collect the address or map location you provide, the resulting latitude and longitude, and details you describe about your rooms, windows, and their orientation. This information is stored only on your device. We use it to calculate how sunlight moves through your home.
Community content. Posts, comments, likes, direct messages, and quiz scores, if you use those features.
Support correspondence. Anything you send us by email.
Information collected automatically
Device and diagnostic data. If the app crashes or hits an error, we receive a crash report that includes device model, operating system version, app version, and your account identifier (not your name or email). We use this only to fix bugs.
Advertising identifier. If you are on the free tier, Google AdMob may access your device's advertising ID to serve ads. Paying subscribers see no ads.
Purchase status. When you subscribe, our payments provider records that a purchase occurred and whether your subscription is active. We never receive your card number — Google Play handles payment.
Usage counters. We count how many times links to plant retailers are tapped, in total across all users. These counters are not linked to you.
Information we deliberately do *not* collect
- We do not read or store location data embedded in your photos. Photo location metadata is discarded before we do anything else with the image.
- We do not track your location in the background. Location is used only when you are actively building a room, and only from what you provide.
- We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with data brokers.
2. How we use your information
| What we use | What for |
|---|---|
| Plant and care data | Running your schedules, reminders, and care history |
| Photos | Identifying species, diagnosing plant health, tracking growth over time |
| Home location and coordinates | Calculating sun angles, daylight hours, and seasonal light changes for your rooms |
| Account information | Signing you in, showing your name and picture on community posts |
| Community content | Operating the feed, messages, and leaderboard |
| Crash reports | Finding and fixing bugs |
| Advertising ID | Serving ads to free-tier users |
| Purchase status | Unlocking subscriber features |
We do not use your information for automated decisions that produce legal effects, and we do not build advertising profiles about you.
3. Artificial intelligence features
Greenprint uses AI to identify plants, diagnose plant health, suggest companion plants, and write care guidance.
When you use one of these features, the relevant content — typically a plant photo, plus text such as species names or the notes attached to that plant — is transmitted to our AI providers, Anthropic and Google, which process it and return a result. Requests are sent through our own server, which does not retain your images after the request completes.
Our AI providers process this content to generate your result. We use their business/API services, under which your content is not used to train their models.
AI output is guidance, not professional or scientific advice. Plant identification and health diagnosis can be wrong. Do not rely on Greenprint to determine whether a plant is safe for a child or animal to eat — consult a poison control center or veterinarian.
4. Where your information is stored
On your device. Your plants, care schedules, photos, rooms, home location, and app settings are stored on your device. If you never sign in, this is the only place they exist.
In the cloud, if you sign in. Your plant collection, watering groups, propagations, rooms, and account profile are copied to Google Firebase (Firestore) so you can restore them on a new device. Community posts, comments, messages, and quiz scores are stored there as well, since those features are inherently online.
Photo backup, for subscribers. Subscribers get photo backup to Cloudinary, a media hosting service. Photos are uploaded and given a private link stored with your plant record.
5. Who we share information with
We share information only with service providers who help us operate the app. We do not sell personal information.
| Provider | What they receive | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Google Firebase (Authentication, Firestore) | Account info, plant data, community content | Sign-in and cloud storage |
| Google Sign-In | Authentication request | Signing you in |
| Google Maps Platform | Coordinates of the location you pin | Retrieving a satellite image of your roof |
| Anthropic | Plant photos and related text | AI identification, diagnosis, and guidance |
| Google (Gemini) | Plant photos and related text | AI health diagnosis |
| Cloudinary | Photos you back up or post publicly | Photo hosting |
| RevenueCat | Anonymous purchase identifier and subscription status | Managing subscriptions |
| Google AdMob | Advertising identifier | Serving ads to free-tier users |
| Sentry | Crash reports with account identifier | Diagnosing bugs |
| Google Play | Purchase transactions | Processing payments |
We may also disclose information if legally required, to protect our rights or the safety of others, or in connection with a merger or sale of the business — in which case we will notify you before your information becomes subject to a different policy.
6. Community features are public
Anything you post to the community feed — text, photos, your display name, and your profile picture — is visible to every other signed-in Greenprint user. Direct messages are visible to you and the person you're messaging. Please don't post anything you wouldn't want a stranger to see, including photos that show your address, documents, or other people.
Deleting a post removes it from the feed. Copies other users have already saved or screenshotted are outside our control.
7. How long we keep information
We keep your information while your account is active. When you delete your account, we remove your sign-in record and your account profile, your plants, watering groups, propagations, wishlist, and rooms, your community posts and the comments and likes on them, comments and likes you left on other people's posts, your direct message threads, your pending message invitations, and your quiz scores. On your device, we erase all app data, delete your saved photos, and cancel any scheduled care reminders.
Two exceptions:
- Photos uploaded to our media host — community post images, profile pictures, and subscriber photo backups — may persist in that provider's storage after account deletion, because of a technical limitation in how the app uploads them. They are removed from the app and no longer linked to your account or discoverable through it. Email us and we will delete them manually.
- Anonymous species information you contributed to our shared plant database — scientific names, light and water needs, and similar horticultural facts — remains in that database. It contains no personal information and is not linked to you.
Crash reports are retained by our diagnostics provider for up to 90 days.
8. How to delete your account and your data
In the app: Settings → Delete account. You'll be asked to confirm twice, then everything listed in Section 7 is removed from your device and from our servers. Because a message thread cannot exist one-sided, deleting your account also removes any direct message conversations you were part of, for both participants.
By email: Write to DesertGardenPlants@gmail.com from the email address on your account, with the subject "Delete my account." We will complete the deletion within 30 days and confirm by reply.
You can also delete individual items — plants, photos, posts, rooms — at any time without deleting your account.
If you only want to stop cloud backup, sign out. Your data stays on your device, and nothing further syncs.
9. Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, correct it, delete it, receive a copy of it, or object to certain processing. Residents of California may request disclosure of the categories of personal information collected and shared, and may opt out of "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising.
To exercise any of these rights, email DesertGardenPlants@gmail.com. We will not treat you differently for exercising them.
Ad personalization. You can limit ad targeting at any time in Android Settings → Privacy → Ads, or eliminate ads entirely by subscribing.
10. Security
We use encrypted connections for all data in transit, and our cloud database enforces per-user access rules so that one user cannot read another user's private records. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a breach affects your personal information, we will notify you and any required authorities.
11. Children
Greenprint is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, email us and we will delete it. Users between 13 and 18 should review this policy with a parent or guardian.
12. International users
Greenprint is operated from the United States, and your information is stored and processed there. If you use the app from outside the United States, you consent to that transfer. Our service providers may store data in other countries under their own safeguards.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app changes. We'll revise the "Last updated" date at the top, and for material changes we'll notify you in the app before they take effect. Continuing to use Greenprint after a change means you accept the revised policy.
